Basic Talk Home Phone Service

Are you tired of overspending for your home phone service? I have been tired of our huge bill for some time now, but we had no alternative! You have to have a phone, and in my rural area we do not have cell service, so that wasn’t an option even. I had heard of Basic Talk but really didn’t know enough about it, till they offered me a review. When I heard Basic Talk is only $9.99 a month for home service, I knew I had to check it out!

BasicTalk works off your existing high speed internet, and  its completely legal! With BasicTalk you can make unlimited calls anywhere in the U.S. for a service fee of $9.99 a month (+ taxes & gov’t fees same as any phone service), this is the REGULAR low price! Not a special! No contract, and they offer you to keep your existing phone number!

The setup was super easy, you purchase the BasicTalk Box from Basic Talk,, or in store at Walmart for a low cost of $9.99.  Then it’s only a few simple steps to get started:

1. Connect your BasicTalk Box™ to an
open port on your Wi-Fi router.

2. Plug any home phone into the
Basic Talk  Box.

3. Pick up your phone and start dialing.

  • •Crystal-clear calling
  • •Includes Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, 911
  • •Online customer support

Your BasicTalk is now ready to use, and your computer does not have to be left online. BasicTalk is running off your router for your internet, not your computer!  Activate your account at, It was super easy to do and in minutes I was able to make a call to my daughter out of state with no issues or problems! Same as making any phone call, only it didn’t cost a fortune for us to talk. I also had her call me back, to see how it worked in coming, no issues!

You will be assigned a phone number or you can keep your existing landline phone number. This I did not do for our account so I really don’t know much about the procedure. More information on that can be answered at

Our current phone bill costs us $57.00 a month and that is before any out of state long distance! Crazy right!! I thought so too, but in order to do in state long distance I had to keep the plan I had, every where we call in the state is long distance! I am pretty sure we are not the only ones with this same huge bill! Without any LONG DISTANCE!!

All of our family is out of the state, so they have made the calls to us for years. The few times we call, the whole conversation is spent worrying how much money it’s costing us! No more worry, for $9.99 a month BasicTalk is unlimited calls anywhere in U.S. that works for me! I think even if and when, we have cell service come to the area, I will always want a BasicTalk landline as well and at $9.99 a month, its a great way to do it.  My oldest daughter has a cell phone however, if she leaves the house it goes with her.  The problem, without someone else at home also having a cell phone for her to call back to, she has no way to reach anyone at the house. No landline, and its been an issue for her, she will be looking into Basic Talk also.

I will be keeping my landline service with my regular provider, for now, why??  Well,  we do live in the boonies, where our internet is not always the most reliable, we do lose service!  But, I can now drop my regular bill to basic service, with Basic Talk still make all my in state long distance calls, and still save more $360.00 a year!!  Plus I will have 2 phones available, and I can make as many out of state calls as I want with no worry about the bill! I can now call family anywhere and talk as long as I want.

If I had reliable internet service that other phone service would be totally out of here! I have complained soooo long about that ridiculous bill. To some it may not seem like a big bill, but when you are allowed NO long distance calling and family is all out of state its crazy! Anywhere that I can save money on household expenses monthly, just means more funds for things we really want or need! Without sacrificing, and I am gaining more than I had! Thats a win!

I will have to look at Walmart for this. We need a home phone line, but I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it. We all have cell phones, except my 11 year old son. This would really help us out!

  2. Phone service is definitely something that is easy to overspend on! Thanks for the plan idea

  3. We’re looking for something like this – need to check it out!

  4. This sounds like something I need to look into!

  5. What a great idea for maintaining a landline without the commitment and cost! Thanks!

This sounds great! Would be the perfect extra phone to have at home for the kids without the huge bill. We had to drop our landline because it was getting ridiculous. Thanks for sharing I’ll be checking this out.

  7. Very bad customer service, I can’t recieve calls for 8 days now and all I get is the same story,( We are working on the issue)

    • Sorry to hear that Ken, I guess my only suggestion would be to go to their FB page and see if questioning them there gets you a quicker answer. Hope they make it right for you, so far my experience has been nothing but good but I understand your frustration.

  8. Thanks so much for the review! We’ve just switched to Basic Talk, and I was worried the service might be lacking since it’s so cheap (compared to others) Now I can’t wait to get my box in the mail!

  9. How much does the box cost from walmart?

    • The box is the same price at Walmart as on Basic Talks website, or within pennies, Walmart $9.88 , with one month free service.

  10. Rev Greyowl says:

Arev calls to Canada also free

  11. what are the exact dimensions of the BasicTalk box? Walmart says it is 11x10x8 but that can’t be right! It looks tiny! Thanks :)

    • It is tiny, not sure why you seen those measurements at Walmart site.
It’s approximately 3″ wide and 4″ long, plugs into your router and your phone cord into
      it, that’s it. Very discreet.

  13. The Basic Talk Service sounds great, but I have spent the last 3 days trying to get some technical assistance. Everytime someone tries to call the new number, it sounds like a fax machine and the call never goes through. So IF YOU NEED reliable phone service, or one that works… at all! I would NOT reccommend it!

  14. Sherry McKinney says:

Can basic talk be used as fax machine? I thought it was offered for free on the website anyways my regular ATT phone service wasn’t great either so I’m gonna jump on this low service, thank you for the helpful information everyone.: )

  15. Can not get a number to talk to a live person! I can’t get set up Swiss it is attached to another line.
